4035 LA HORIZONTAL CHARGING CABINET

STOP / SLOW DOWN

Prevents the flames from spreading. The heat rises above 800°C, toxic fire gases spread into the air people breathe, and smoke spreads into the surroundings.

The fire is left to burn itself out, the premises must be evacuated and cleaned, and anyone exposed to the fire gases must be examined/treated

EFFECTIVENESS
30%

Extinguishes external flames, but does not stop thermal runaway. Buys extra time for rescue operations. An enclosed space creates a risk of explosion.

The aerosol itself does not damage the batteries, but they are destroyed in the course of the suppression.

EFFECTIVENESS
52%

The fire goes out immediately and the reaction stops in an instant. There is no time for smoke damage to occur, and the toxic fire gases dissolve into the extinguishing water instead of spreading into the air people breathe.

All of the batteries in the cabinet are destroyed, as they are with any other solution.

EFFECTIVENESS
100%
PROTECTION CLASS

IP40

Our devices are made to be safe to use indoors. They are not recommended for outdoor use.

ACTIVE FIRE DETECTION

2 MIN

Detects a starting battery fire up to minutes before the flame stage.

WARRANTY

4+

We grant a four-year warranty on the 4053 and 4035, which can be extended.

FAQ

All of the batteries inside the device are submerged in water. This is unfortunate, but it would happen anyway in the event of a fire. Our charging cabinets are built to keep people, pets and premises safe.

Inside the charging cabinet there are sensors, some of which monitor the amount of gas and others the temperature. By combining these signals we can reliably identify thermal runaway or a fire, and stop it right at the start.

A standard power socket and a large enough fuse (16A).

The device’s extinguishing water is held in a tank and requires no plumbing connections

A large mountain bike measures more than 2m x 1.3m x 1m. The cabinet would take up several cubic metres of space, its suppression function would be far slower, and building it would multiply the price. The batteries of six bikes fit into a single cabinet, and there is no need to build a separate shipping-container-sized space for them

The cabinet has a master code that can reset a forgotten PIN code. It is unique to each cabinet, so contact whoever is responsible for the property. (In companies this is often the facility manager or maintenance person; in housing companies, the property manager)

We will be in touch about extending the warranty before it expires. Extending the warranty requires that we replace the sensors, test the cabinet’s operation and run diagnostics.

In short: our cabinet is built to protect people from flames and fire gases by stopping the battery fire. The fire brigade is called in to remove the burnt battery.

Competing solutions – cabinets with aerosol suppression, as well as passive cabinets – are built to give rescuers extra time to react to a battery fire, but the fire brigade is still needed on site to stop the reaction.

There are really three reasons for this:

  1. Water immersion has been found to be the most effective way to stop a battery fire and thermal runaway.
  2. According to the LION research project carried out by the Emergency Services Academy Finland, methods that smother the external flame and displace oxygen (foam/aerosol) create a risk of the gases re-igniting or exploding
  3. The Rescue Act (379/2011), Section 9, obliges the owner, the holder and the operator of a building to ensure that:
  • the risk of a fire starting and spreading is low
  • people are able to leave or can be rescued
  • rescue operations are possible in the event of an accident
  • the safety of rescue personnel has been taken into account

The flare-up or explosion usually happens at exactly the moment a rescuer has to open the cabinet in order to put out the battery fire.

In a nutshell: water immersion is the most affordable, the safest and the most reliable way to stop thermal runaway
